Dr. Bhim Kanta Barua receives Bhimbor Deori Award

DEMOW: Under the patronage of the Directorate of Cultural Affairs and in collaboration with Sivasagar district administration, Deori Autonomous Council and All Assam Deori Students’ Union, the 72nd death anniversary of Bhimbor Deori was observed in the playground of Bamrajabari High Medium School in Bam Rajabari of Sivasagar district on Saturday. For the first time, the Directorate of Cultural Affairs presented the Bhimbor Deori Award 2019 to Dr. Bhim Kanta Barua, educationist and renowned linguistic as well as retired Professor of the Assamese Department in Dibrugarh University. The Bhimbor Deori award was presented to Dr.Bhim Kanta Barua by Naba Doley, State Cultural Affairs Minister, and he was accompanied by Hrishikesh Goswami, Tapan Kumar Gogoi, and Kushal Dowari, MLA of Thowra constituency.

The ceremonial lamp in front of the portrait of Jananeta Bhimbor Deori was lit by Naba Doley, State Cultural Affairs Minister, Hrishikesh Goswami, Chief Minister’s media adviser, and Tapan Kumar Gogoi, Jorhat MP. A felicitation programme was organized where Naba Doley, State Cultural Affairs Minister, Hrishikesh Goswami, the Chief Minister’s media adviser, and Tapan Kumar Gogoi, Jorhat MP, Dr Dayananda Borgohain, chairman of AHSEC, Kushal Dowari, MLA of Thowra Constituency, leaders of Deori Autonomous Council, leaders of All Assam Deori Students’ Union along with other dignitaries were felicitated.

A souvenir was unveiled by Naba Kumar Doley on the occasion of the 72nd death anniversary of Jananeta Bhimbor Deori, which was edited by Lalit Kumar Deori and published by the Director of Cultural Affairs, Government of Assam. Media adviser to the Chief Minister, Hrishikesh Goswami said that Bhimbor Deori spoke for the developmental works of different communities of Assam at that time.

Tapan Kumar Gogoi, Jorhat MP, and Kushal Dowari, MLA of Thowra Constituency, gave their valuable speeches on the occasion.

The award carries a xarai, gamosa, Anga Bastra and a cheque of Rs 2 Lakh. In the programme, Dr.MS Lakshmi Priya, Deputy Commissioner of Sivasagar district, BJP leaders, family members of Jananeta Bhimbor Deori, members of Deori Autonomous Council members and All Assam Deori Students’ Union were present along with other dignitaries.
