DHUBRI: The ninth death anniversary of musical maestro, DrBhupenHazarika was observed under the auspices of the Assamese Department of Bholanath College, Dhubri in a befitting manner at the college premises here on Thursday. At the onset of programme, Principal of the college, DrDhrubaChakrabortty inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp while the memorial meeting was presided over by the president of Dhubri district unit SahityaXabha, Tarani Roy.
Tarani Roy, while addressing the meeting, highlighted the multifaceted talents of the maestro and said that he was truly a gem in the crown of Assam. With his music and songs, he had touched all spheres of social life.
Dr. Chakrabortty in his brief speech also recalled the contribution of Sudhakantha Dr. BhupenHazarika and said that the maestro would live in the hearts of people for generations to come with his melodious and mesmerising songs and other forms of performing arts.
Head of the Assamese Department, Dr. UpendrajitSarma, who anchored the memorial meet, said that it was not possible to think of Assam without DrBhupenHazarika. Dr. Sarma also called upon the students to emulate the qualities of the maestro. Earlier, the objective of the meeting was explained by the secretary of Dhubri district unit of SahityaXabha, Amzad Ali.
