Dr BR Ambedkar's birth anniversary observed by Asom Anusuchita Jati Yuva-Chatra Santha of Lakhimpur

LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur district unit of Asom Anusuchita Jati Yuva-Chatra Santha observed the 128th birth anniversary of Dr. Bhimarao Ramji Ambedkar on Sunday in front of the Lakhimpur Zila Parishad office in North Lakhimpur town. The event began with the paying of floral tribute to the statue of Dr. BR Ambedkar by Gogamukh NCD College Principal Surajit Doley. The open session organized on the occasion was chaired by Lakhimpur district unit president of the organization, Dibya Jyoti Hazarika. Secretary Sumanta Das explained the objectives of the programme.

Poet and Assistant Headmaster of Lakhimpur Town High School, Mohan Kumar Das took part in the event as an appointed speaker. In his speech, he highlighted the life and noble ideologies of Dr Ambedkar. State president of the organization, Nripen Das, former chairperson of North Lakhimpur Scheduled Caste Development Board, Deuty Das and social activist Bakul Pathak graced the occasion as guests of honour. Inspector of Indo-Tibetan Border Police, Kimin, Arunachal Pradesh, led the lighting of ceremonial lamps programme held in the evening. A 'Rongali Bihu Adarani' programme was also organized by the organization on the same day at the same place. Various cultural groups presented husori and Taka Bihu in the programme.

BILASIPARA: Under the aegis of Dr BR Ambedkar Bhavan Management Committee, the 129th birth anniversary of Dr. BR Ambedkar was observed at Bilasipara on Sunday with a day-long programme.

In this connection, Dayal Paul, president of the Dr. BR Ambedkar Bhawan Management Committee, hoisted the national flag in the morning followed by garlanding of the statue of Dr. Ambedkar by Dr. Kanu Lal Das, secretary of the Bhawan Management Committee.

Amalendu Banikya, working president of the management committee, lit the ceremonial lamp while Jagadananda Barkalita, advocate, and Yousuf Ali Ahmed, former MLA, offered floral tribute on the portrait of Dr. Ambedkar. In this connection, Bihu dance and song were presented by local artistes.

In the evening, a seminar was held on the topic 'Contribution of Dr. Ambedkar for Women Empowerment' with Dayal Paul as moderator. Dr. Kanu Lal Das delivered the welcome address. Hridayananda Das, former Principal of Bilasipara Public HS School, and Manoj Phukan, Block Elementary Education Officer, Bilasipara, spoke on the topic as resource persons. Dr Ambedkar's statue was illuminated by lighting 129 earthen lamps in the evening.
