Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma’s bike rally confronted by Congress workers in Sivasagar

SIVASAGAR: A massive BJP bike rally was carried out by Assam Finance and PWD Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma at Nazira in Sivasagar district on Friday. The bike rally was taken out to prepare a master plan for improvement of road network, which was participated by thousands of BJP activists including Rajya Sabha MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, Lok Sabha MP Topon Kumar Gogoi and State Revenue Minister Jogen Mohan.

However, tensions came to the fore when the rally was confronted by Congress workers led by leader of Opposition and Nazira MLA Debabrata Saikia, who tried to halt the rally. The rally ran into further trouble after the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) members greeted the convoy with black flags, emblematic of their resentment for the BJP party’s amendment of the Citizenship Act.

It may be mentioned that the rally coincided with the ongoing HSLC exams, which was decried by Saikia, who called upon the Government to look into the matter and also penalize ‘helmet less’ bikers who took part in the rally.

Debabrata Saikia also wrote a complaint to the Deputy Commissioner of Sivasagar regarding the motorcycle rally.

Earlier, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the family members of Former Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly and sitting Congress MLA Pranab Kumar Gogoi at his residence at Red Cross Road in Sivasagar town.
