Dr. Nagen Saikia receives Harendra Nath Baruah Memorial Award in Golaghat

GOLAGHAT: The Golaghat Press Club (GPC) conferred the prestigious award Harendra Nath Baruah Memorial Award to the veteran journalist, educationist and intellectual Dr. Nagen Saikia on Tuesday at a ceremony held at the auditorium hall of Debraj Roy College under the aegis of the former students’ cell and the Department of Assamese of DR College.

In this context, a meeting was held chaired by Debajit Phukan, president of GPC. The chief secretary of Axam Xahitya Xabha, Jadav Sarma took part as a special guest of the programme. The programme was started with the lighting of the lamp followed by a chorus song.

Notably, Golaghat Press Club has been awarding two prestigious awards, namely the Harendra Nath Baruah Memorial Award and Lakhminath Phukan Memorial Award, to renowned persons from the field of literature, culture and journalism. This year the Harendra Nath Baruah Memorial Award was conferred to Dr Nagen Saikia. The award comprises a cheque of Rs 10,000, cheleng, xaphura, japi, gamosa and memento.

In the programme, the annual magazine of the Golaghat Press Club, Prantar, edited by Hema Choudhury Gogoi and Parijat Baruah, was released by Putul Saikia, Principal of Debraj Roy College.
