BONGAIGAON: The new Vice-Chancellor of Bongaigaon University, Dr Taranee Deka, arrived at Bongaigaon to take over his charge on Friday. The teaching team, students, and people of Bongaigaon welcomed him with great enthusiasm.

Professor Dr Taranee Deka was appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of Bongaigaon University, taking office after a swearing-in ceremony held on July 25 at Raj Bhavan, Guwahati. The Assam Governor, Lakshman Prasad Acharya, administered the oath of office to Dr Deka, along with six other newly-appointed vice-chancellors of state-run universities in Assam on Thursday.

Addressing the media, Dr Deka said that his first target would be to introduce new post graduate departments in the university. “As the Bongaigaon College has upgraded to university, infrastructure development is most essential, specially introducing post graduate sections in all departments and providing research facilities for different departments. I will make correspondence with the Government of Assam immediately for this infrastructure development and increasing the manpower as extra staff will be required essentially. Right now, we have to form an executive council, academic council, and the court. My priority is to form these councils and introduce masters degrees in every department in the first year on priority basis,” he said.

Prior to this appointment, Dr Taranee Deka was a Professor in the Department of Assamese at Gauhati University.
