According to border area residents, Karimganj has emerged as the corridor for smugglers, raising questions galore about the alert and agile BSF and the second line of defence called Assam police. The residents allege smuggling out of drugs and other contraband goods through the border has been goin from the Latukandi area under Karimgang sadar police station. In fact, he resides on 'no man's land,' the other side of the barbed wire fencing of Latugram village.

Maman was nabbed by BGB with 200 yaba tablets from Borlekha under Moulvibazar district of Sylhet division. He is presently lodged in Borlekha police station which was confirmed by Jahangir Hossain, officer in charge. BSF intelligence is yet to confirm the arrest and detention of Maman. But, it did affirm that a youth has been missing from the Latukandi 'no man's land.' A flag meeting was held on Wednesday between BSF and BGB to discuss the cross border crime in which the arrest, detention and incarceration of Maman was also raised.

The smuggling in of drugs beyond the barbed wire fencing has come for severe criticism from concerned citizens. It is to be recalled at the end of December 2019, a drug peddler Binand Namashudra of Gobindpur village, 2 km from Latukandi, while carrying the contraband goods, crossing the fencing was detained by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) of Bangladesh at Biyani Bazar. Similar questions about the border security were raised. Once the accused after serving jail term are released get back to their risky but lucrative business.
