Drug Racket Busted at Duliajan-Digboi, 25 kg Ganja, Heroin Seized by Assam Police

In a major crackdown against narcotics trade, a team led by Namrup DSP Kula Pradip Bhattacharjee and Duliajan Police Station Officer in-charge Rupjyoti Dutta busted a five member drug racket in a two-day operation which started from Monday at Duliajan and Digboi.

NAHARKATIA/ DIGBOI: In a major crackdown against narcotics trade, a team led by Namrup DSP Kula Pradip Bhattacharjee and Duliajan Police Station Officer in-charge Rupjyoti Dutta busted a five member drug racket in a two-day operation which started from Monday at Duliajan and Digboi.

According to police source, following a tip-off, Dibrugarh District Superintendent of Police Shwetank Mishra guided the operation against the narcotics trade. On Monday, a police team headed by Namrup DSP Kula Pradip Bhattacharjee and Duliajan OC Rupjyoti Dutta raided OIL residential area quarter number A type 858 and Gajal Basti area of Duliajan and arrested Sahil Balmiki (23), son of Rajesh Balmiki, and Biju Garh (24), son of Nageswar Garh. After getting specific information from the drug peddlers, the police team led by Rupjyoti Dutta on Tuesday raided Digboi Railgate Charali and Digboi Itabhata areas and arrested mother-son duo drug peddlers Saira Begum (50) and Fushki Ali (19) and Santanu Bora (25), son of Hareswar Bora, from Digboi.

The police team seized 97 containers of suspected heroin of 14.46 gram, 25 kg ganja, a Fiat Punto car having registration number ML 10B8104, four mobile phones, two syringes, cash Rs 1.88 lakh and one mobile power bank from the peddlers.

"Our operations and efforts to free the society against narcotics trade will continue. We will take stern measures under the provisions of law to free the area of Duliajan from the evil of suspected substance abuse," Namrup DSP Kula Pradip Bhattacharjee said.

The Namrup DSP added that the seized heroin and ganja were worth nearly Rs 8 lakh. Police registered a case under section 22(c) of NDPS Act and investigation is on.
