DTO Gautam Das Launches Operation Sarkhar to Collect Due Road Taxes
GUWAHATI: The Transportation department of the Government of Assam under Assistant Commissioner of Transport Gautam Das in coordination with the Traffic Branch of Assam Police has launched Operation Sarkhar on Wednesday from the capital city of Guwahati. The aim of this operation is to collect all arrears taxes regarding both private and commercial vehicles plying in the state of Assam.
This operation aims to collect all arear taxes like road taxes and vehicle registration charges and to verify the validity of all necessary documents for the vehicle to ply on the road. The operation was flagged off from Khanapara in Guwahati in the presence of several key officials.
“This operation has been started to realise all the arear motor vehicle taxes as well as ensure that all the vehicles have the necessary documents like driving license, fitness certificate, insurance, pollution certificate, etc.” said Gautam Das the Assistant Commissioner for the Government of Assam.
“Stringent action will be taken against all those who have not paid the due arrears or have not updated their document” he added while asking citizens to keep all documents upto date.
He also mentioned that commuters as well as pedestrians must follow all the rules of the road in order to ensure the safety of everyone. Teams of officials from the Traffic Police of Assam as well as the Transport Department carried out checking in different parts of the city to ensure that the rules are followed and to verify the validity of all necessary documents.
The department had also published a circular asking all the owners and operators of both private as well as commercial vehicles to clear all dues before March 31. These included current and arrear road taxes while mentioning that this process can now be completed via the Common Service Centers to CSCs located at different key offices across the state of Assam.
