Dubapara Police stop minor's marriage in Goalpara

GOALPARA: The Dubapara Police Petrol Post (PPP), as per the by Amitabh Basumatary, Additional Superintendent of Police, Goalpara, successfully stopped a scheduled child marriage on Sunday night at the Forest Gate area.

"I was directed by the ASP to launch a quick operation in the area to stop this anti-social menace and we could successfully locate the house and take legal action," said Sonaullah Sheikh, in-charge officer of Dubapara PPP.

According to the police, the relatives of the bride, a class X student, had fixed her marriage through an agreement with the groom from LengtisingaYusubpur in Bongaigaon district.

However, the bride groom's relatives fled from the scene after the police arrived. Police also praised the positive role played by the kazi who declined to solemnize the marriage due to the minor age of the bride.
