NAHARKATIA: The All Assam Students' Union (AASU) Duliajan unit on Friday burnt the effigy of Sherman Ali Ahmed, Congress MLA from Baghbar constituency, at the Pipol Tol Tiniali of Duliajan.

Expressing deep anguish and rage over the alleged statement of Congress MLA from Baghbar constituency, Sheman Ali Ahmed recently where he had justified the killing of eight youths in Darrang district in 1983, AASU central executive member Anil Gogoi challenged Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) to take immediate action against Sherman Ali Ahmed.

Duliajan unit AASU president Bubul Talukdar and general secretary Dipangkar Gogoi, Dibrugarh district executive Pradip Gogoi, took part in the protest. Burning the effigy, the AASU activists demanded action against the MLA over his controversial statement on the Assam Movement martyrs and appealed to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to take stern action against Sherman Ali Ahmed.
