The state education minister Ranoj Pegu on Saturday visited his alma mater Shankardev Seminary in Assam’s Jorhat after a span of 43 years.

The Minister kneeled at the main entrance of the school while attending the school. The minister said that the state education department would take up several schemes to bring back the lost glory of schools, which are more than 50 years old.

Ranoj Pegu has passed the matriculation examination from the Shankardev Seminary in 1978.

He has collected the original certificate of the High School Leaving Examination from the school and took stock problems of the school.

"I am emotional today. From this school in 1978, I passed the matriculation examination with first division and enrolled in JB College, Jorhat," Education Minister Ranoj Pegu expressed his feelings.

Going down memory lane the minister said that he had passed in the first division from his school and had played football, taken part in debates and written plays during his school days. He paid rich tributes to the founder of the school, Biman Baruah.

Minister Ranoj Pegu said that the infrastructure of school which have been in existence for more than 50 years will be developed.

"I learned honesty and discipline in personal life from Biman Baruah sir. There are many schools in Assam which are over a hundred years old. We will start work from next year to restore the former glory of these schools and the Shankardev Seminary at Jorhat will be of special importance," Ranoj Pegu said.
