Eighth biennial Baksa district Axam Xahitya Xabha session gets underway

GORESWAR: The 8th biennial Baksa district Axam Xahitya Xabha and the 24th biennial Goreswar Xahitya Xabha session got underway with a two-day long program at Goreswar in Baksa district from Saturday.

The flag was hoisted by Brajendra Nath Deka, president of Baksa district Xahitya Xabha, Amindra Nath, acting president of the reception committee, and Satya Nath Thakuria, president of Goreswar Xahitya Xabha, performed the Smriti tarpan on Saturday morning.

Satyanath Thakuria presided over the general meeting of the Goreswar unit of Xahitya Xabha where a 17-member new body was formed with Satyanath Thakuria and Parameswar Deka as president and secretary respectively.

Khabiruddin Ali Ahmed, acting president of the reception committee, inaugurated the executive meeting while Brajendra Nath Deka, president of Baksa district Xahitya Xabha, presided over it.

On Sunday, the Shisu Sanmilon ‘Kuhi’ will be inaugurated by Putul Choudhury Deory, vice-president of Baksa district Xahitya Xabha, and Deepa Bhattacharjee, lecturer of Puthimari College will preside over it. A cultural procession will be inaugurated by minister Bhabesh Kalita in the morning.

The open session will be inaugurated by Kuladhar Saikia, president of Axam Xahitya Xabha, and Madhab Ch. Kalita, newly-elected district president, will preside over it.

Dr. Paramananda Rajbongshi, former president of Axam Xahitya Xabha, will attend the open meeting as chief guest while Dr. Basanta Kumar Sarma, renowned litterateur, will be the appointed speaker. Hari Deka, an advocate of Gauhati High Court, will release a series of books in the open meeting.
