Election Observers hold meeting with contesting candidates in Haflong

HAFLONG: VR Vinodh, General Observer, and Md. Manzarul Hasan, Expenditure Observer for 16-Haflong Constituency, held a meeting with the agents and representatives of the contesting candidates at Deputy Commissioner's conference hall recently. The meeting was held in the presence of Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Paul Barua and Election officials engaged in the ensuing Assam Assembly election.

Urging the agents and representatives of the candidates for peaceful conduct of the polls, General Observer VR Vinod, urged them to refrain from any violation of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) and explained various aspects of Model Code of Conduct in detail to all the candidates, including polling day, meetings, processions and general conduct. Highlighting the importance of equitable opportunities to all the contesting candidates, he told the representatives present that there should be transparent, inclusive, and accountable election.

Instructing the representatives of the contesting candidates, Expenditure Observer Md. Manzarul Hasan urged them to abide by the guidelines as stated in the compendium of instructions regarding expenditure of the candidate. Ensuring that bank accounts are opened already either in the name of the contesting candidates or his or her political agent, strict message was given to them to avoid cash expenditure beyond the permissible limit of Rs. 10, 000. All necessary instructions regarding maintenance of accounts, including bills and vouchers, were briefed by the Expenditure Observer. He also informed them about the inspection of the expenditure register which has been scheduled for March 22, March 26 and March 30 at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner.

Speaking about the efforts of district administration to conduct a free and fair election, the Returning Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Paul Barua requested all present in the meeting to cooperate with the district administration, especially the representatives and their workers, to work in tandem for smooth and hassle-free conduct of entire process of election in Dima Hasao.
