Election-Related Violence Lands a Student in Hospital

SILCHAR: As many as 18 students of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Silchar were booked for allegedly thrashing juniors in the premier engineering college.

Another shocking incident in educational institutions has come to light in the state of Assam when a fourth-semester student was allegedly beaten up by his seniors. A victim, Siddhant Paitya was admitted to the Silchar Medical College Hospital with multiple injuries.

The student lodged an FIR at the Ghungoor Police Outpost on Saturday regarding the matter. He named a total of 18 seniors in his complaint with help from his family members. These 18 were mentioned to be the prime accused of the incident while many more students had their involvement.

According to the complaint, the victim had mentioned that he stayed on the college campus on Tuesday and had parked his car in front of Hostel-6. The seniors, against whom the complaint was raised apparently damaged his vehicle to bully. They then processed to verbally abuse him, followed by physical attacks. As many as 3 glass bottles were broken by them on the victim's head and back.

“A friend came to same me, but he was also beaten up in the incident. At one point, I thought I would die,” mentioned Siddant Paitya. His mother mentioned, “It was a horrifying incident and authorities should look into this carefully before something bigger happens.” She also added that there are severe cuts and multiple injuries all over his body and CT Scans had been taken to find the exact extent of the injuries.

After the case is been registered by the victim and his family, the Superintendent of Police for Cachar, Numal Mahatta said that they have taken the matter into concern. He himself met the injured student and talked to him as the preliminary investigation this is not ragging the entire matter is related to the election which was supposed get held in the institute. But after this unfortunate incident, the student governing body election is been cancelled.
