Electricity still eludes Oyengiya village in Dhakuakhana

LAKHIMPUR: At a time when the Union and State governments have adopted various aspiring schemes to electrify every nook and corner of the nation as well as the State, a village under Dhakuakhana, which is the native constituency of Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Naba Kumar Doley, is still deprived of electrification. The people of Oyengiya village under Borshamukh Gaon Panchayat and Ghilamora Electric Division have been living in darkness even after 73 years of Independence.

Frustrated, the villagers took to the street on Tuesday and staged strong protest against the Electricity Department and the State Government. During the demonstration, the protesters shouted slogans against the State Government, State Power Minister, Ghilamora Electric Division and local MLA Naba Kumar Doley and demanded immediate electrification in the village.

The people of the village are economically backward and the village is facing various problems as well. The road of the village is in a deplorable condition since a long time. Under such circumstances, non-electrification is an added insult to the injuries of the villagers.

The villagers threatened to intensify their protest unless electricity was provided to their houses immediately. They declared that they would boycott the upcoming assembly election unless the village was electrified soon.
