NAHARKATIA: An elephant's body was recovered on the Buridihing Riverbank in the Dihing Patkai National Park, Dighalighat area, Joypur on Saturday.

According to sources, the elephant's body was seen by local villagers and immediately they informed the forest department. After that, Range Officer of Jeypore Range, along with other forest officials and staff, reached the spot and took the body near the Jeypore forest IB river bank with the help of machine boat and around 50 local people. Two veterinary doctors from Naharkatia and Dibrugarh conducted the post-mortem. Range officer Sharat Chandra Neog said, "The elephant whose body was recovered was a male elephant calf around 10 to 12 years old. Only after the post-mortem report is out we will be able to tell the cause of death of the calf."
