SIVASAGAR: Dr Deeptimanta Baruah, a prominent physician, environmentalist and former vice-president of Seujiya Samaj Sangeet Mahavidyalaya, who was a resident of Sankar Mandir Path, Sivasagar, passed away at the age of 72 years on Saturday night.
Dr Baruah was educated at Nagaon and Jorhat as his father worked at Apex Bank. He later received his bachelor's and master's degrees in medical science from Assam Medical College. Dr Baruah, a well-known physician of Sivasagar, also worked closely with Soumyadwip Dutta, a prominent environmentalist, as the chief coordinator of Nature's Beacon, Sivasagar district, in 2000.
Noted litterateur Dipali Bhattacharya Baruah's husband and eminent physician Dr Deeptimanta Baruah's demise has been deeply condoled by individuals such as educationist Dipali Chaliha and noted social worker Saurav Chaliha and various organizations, including Sivasagar Natya Samaj, Chaulung Syukafa Indoor Stadium Management Committee, Seuj Kunwar Parag Chaliha Smriti Lakshya Samiti, Seujiya Samaj Sangeet Mahavidyalaya, Sivasagar Zila Sahitya Xabha, Sivasagar Yuva Dal and many others.
