Eminent scientist stresses steps to stop further degradation of environment

DHUBRI: Dr. Sanat Saha, an eminent scientist of the country who hails from Dhubri town, delivered a lecture on ‘Energy and Environment- An Indian Perspective’ at Visva-Bharati, Santiniketan recently. Dr. Saha delivered the lecture to the students of Chemistry and Environmental Sciences Departments, researchers, professors and Head of the Department. In his lecture, Dr Saha dealt at a length on ‘Energy and Environment’ session and said that the future of the country was in their hands and they had to play pivotal role to stop further degradation of environment.

Talking to The Sentinel over phone from Kolkata, Dr. Saha said that it was a rare opportunity for him to deliver the guest lecture. “It was a sheer honour to enter the Visva-Bharati, the creation of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore at Santiniketan, and deliver a guest lecture on energy and environment. Rarely have I come across such keen learners and committed audience. It was indeed inspiring to spend time with them,” Dr. Saha said.

Son of Tarapada Saha, a reputed umbrella merchant of lower Assam, Dr. Saha completed his schooling from Sishu Pathsala Higher Secondary School in 1962 and did his graduation in science with distinction from BN College, and left Dhubri for higher studies in 1973. He did M.Sc in Agriculture Bio-Chemistry, and PhD in Soil Science and Natural Resource Management in 1980, postdoctoral research in soil with fellowship from Council of Scientific and Industrial Research in 1982, and joined the Government of India fertilizer company known as PPCL.
