Ensure nobody enters Assam without proper screening: Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta

GOSSAIGAON: Assam Director General of Police (DGP) Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta passed a directive to the civil and police administration of Kokrajhar district to put a scanner on the entry of people into Assam through Srirampur gate and other vulnerable points without proper screening, in order to aid the State government's perpetual efforts to beat the rise of COVID-19 cases.

Visiting a screening camp, adjacent to Srirampur gate at Gossaigaon subdivision in Kokrajhar, on Wednesday to take stock of the activities to screen every person's movement from across the inter-State boundary, the DGP said that the civil and police administration together should keep a tab on every entry point in the district to ensure that nobody could enter Assam without going through COVID-19 screening protocol. DGP Mahanta spent some time with every personnel posted at Srirampur gate and screening camp, including doctors, paramedics and police, and asked them to ensure proper screening and not to allow anybody to enter Assam from across the State without passing through mandatory COVID-19 screening. He also asked the police to keep strict surveillance on some reported vulnerable points to thwart any design of unauthorized movement from the neighbouring State.

Kokrajhar SP Rakesh Roushan apprised the DGP that he had ensured deployment of CRPF, Assam Police personnel and village defence parties for round-the-clock surveillance. Meanwhile, IGP BTAD, Anurag Agarwala informed the DGP that the Kokrajhar district administration had ensured constant monitoring along the Sonkosh River to prevent any attempt of people sneaking into Assam by swimming across the river. Later, speaking to the reporters, the DGP said that the State government had taken steps to bring back the people of Assam stranded in different places of the country and in respect to that, proper surveillance was going on in the Chagolia and Srirampur gates bordering West Bengal. In association with the district administrations of Kokrajhar and Dhubri, adequate steps had been taken to screen the health of all passengers, including transporters.
