TINSUKIA: Is the Chief Minister of Assam aware that his native village Bindhakota Mulukgaon under Chabua revenue circle is in the grip of severe erosion as 90 per cent of land mass close to his village like Tengabari Mirigaon, Rongmola, Gereki and Nepaligaon have been eroded by the surging flood of the rivers Brahmaputra and Dibru close to Tinsukia district. While many families left their homes and took shelter in Bindhakota Mulukgaon, life there has been miserable, particularly for women and girls, as they have to compromise with their privacy.

The affected people complained before mediapersons of sub-standard living, non-availability of food items, including baby food and fodder for their cattle, no drinking water facilities and unhygienic toilets. The villagers also complained that the authorities concerned never paid interest to their numerous applications and petitions to solve the problem of erosion in the area which has continued unabated since 2010. Although, some short-term measures were taken they were mostly unsuccessful due to unscientific implementation and also due to alleged large-scale corruption in implementation of these anti-erosion projects. Some relief was also provided to the affected people but at individual level. The affected people have demanded adequate relief and rehabilitation package.
