TINSUKIA: "We would prefer to die on the streets protesting rather than being swept away in erosion," said erosion-affected victims of Kordoiguri under Doomdooma revenue circle who have been devastated by Ananta Nallah after Dangori River, a tributary of River Brahmaputra, was breached in 1992. The then small stream- Anantanalla -took the shape of a vast river that breached several embankments over the years.

Tinsukia People Seeking Permanent solution of ErosionĀ

In a press meet organized jointly by Talap-Koidoiguri Anchalik committee of Moran Students' Union, Asom Moran Sabha, Kordoiguri Anchalik Yabuk Sangha and erosion-affected local people at No 3 Kordoiguri (Goriating) village on Tuesday, the speakers vent their ire at successive State Governments that failed to address the erosion problem. The river over the years eroded major landmass rendering hundreds of families homeless without any proper rehabilitation, even as ministers, MLAs and bureaucrats visited the erosion site several times, they alleged. Though Dibrugarh Division of Water Resource Department maintains a subdivision at Doomdooma with an assistant executive engineer, a scientific approach to solve the problem permanently was not carried out, they regretted.

The organization leaders, while asking for permanent scientific solution to erosion problem, demanded provincialization of Kordoiguri Uccha Madhyamik Vidyalaya and Kodoiguri ME Balika Vidyalaya established in 1975 and 1993 respectively, besides restoration and preservation of historic Tipuk Mayamora Simulguri Bajrapur Xatra.
