Eviction Drive On Dumping Ground of North Lakhimpur Municipal Board

LAKHIMPUR: Lakhimpur district administration launched an eviction drive on Monday at the dumping ground of North Lakhimpur Municipal Board (NLMB) located at Chandmari by the side of the Somdiri River.

By launching the drive, the district administration removed the illegal encroachment upon 14 bighas of land under the dumping ground by 76 families. The eviction drive, initiated under the aegis of NLMB, was led by DSP (Headquarter) Runa Neog, OC of North Lakhimpur Police Station Aditya Kumar Deori, IC of Khelmati Outpost in the presence of Monjit Borkakati, the Circle Officer of North Lakhimpur Revenue Circle.

The major part of the dumping ground was encroached by several families for a long time. In this regard, the NLMB requested the district administration to evict the encroachments. But it was not possible due to a case filed in the High Court by 19 families. However, the High Court issued an order empowering the Lakhimpur DC with regard to taking a decision on the issue and as result of it, the eviction drive was conducted on Monday.
