SILCHAR: Excise and Fisheries Minister Parimal Suklabaidya laid the foundation stone for the construction of two agricultural development officers' office buildings in Cachar district's Dholai assembly constituency on Sunday. The foundation stones were laid in Darmikhal under Palonghat development block (project cost - over Rs. 40 lakh) and Narsingpur under Narsingpur block (project cost - over Rs. 36 lakh). Two brief programmes were held on the occasion at both places.

Speaking at the event in Darmikhal, Minister Parimal Suklabaidya said the agriculture sector can be developed by co-ordination between the authorities concerned and people associated with agriculture. "Setting up a building (ADO office) cannot bring development. People associated with the agriculture sector need to be in touch with the authorities and make efforts in tandem for the industry's overall progress," he said.

He spoke about the history of agriculture saying human civilisation has deep roots with agriculture and that everyone's ancestors depended on farming/agriculture to run their households and feed their families. "Our past is linked with agriculture. Our predecessors depended on this to run their households," he said.

He stressed on the importance on raising awareness among farmers of this part of the State regarding production of local crops and cereals in good amount. This will help in economic development of this region, the minister said.

District agriculture officer AR Ahmed spoke about various issues related to the agriculture sector and said the present government has taken various initiatives for their viable solution. He also thanked the government for setting up the ADO office in Darmikhal saying farmers will be immensely benefited once the project gets completed.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Yubaraj Borthakur hoped various agriculture-related issues would be resolved after the ADO office is set up in Darmikhal. He exhorted all the people (those present at the event and are associated with agriculture) to avail the benefits/facilities of agriculture-related schemes. In Narsingpur, the minister interacted with officials of the Narsingpur block development office, discussed about various issues related to the block and assured about their solution with time. Central Dholai Zilla Parishad member Shashanka Chandra Paul and anchalik panchayat president, Narsingpur development block Pompy Paul were also present, stated a press release.
