Expulsion order against Tinsukia Municipal Board chairman withdrawn

TINSUKIA: BJP state president Bhabesh Kalita has withdrawn the expulsion order issued to Jayanta Baruah, chairman of Tinsukia Municipal Board (TMB) who was earlier expelled from primary membership for defiance of party directives following written assurance from Baruah that he would abide by party's decisions and principle. This was informed by Diplu Ranjan Sarma, the state general secretary in a letter vide no BJPAP/DAL/2020-22/L-338 of January 29 issued to Baruah.

In a dramatic twist of developments in the Tinsukia Municipal Board impasse which is presently defunct and functionless, the withdrawal of expulsion in respect of sitting chairman Jayanta Baruah has spilled the beans of few ward commissioners, including vice-chairman who were vying for chairmanship and systematically conspiring to dethrone Baruah by all means at the behest of local political leaders and MLA Sanjoy Kishan. The latter openly defamed Baruah in several public meetings at Tinsukia ever since the Board was constituted for the reasons best known to him. The party sources said Baruah is likely to be reinstated to the incumbency with dignity.

Lobbying within the ward commissioners came to fore after Kishan began favouring former vice-chairman Nabanita Agarwal for chairmanship even as neither ward commissioners nor party office could establish administrative or financial irregularities against Baruah. During the past nine months, the functioning of TMB came to a standstill due to the rift over chairmanship. While the members kept themselves busy in dirty politics and mudslinging, no developmental works could be implemented with the Tinsukia Municipal areas.
