Family Members of Martyrs’ in Golaghat returned Assam Govt Honour to protest against CAB’ 16

Golaghat: Amid the widespread protest against the much debated Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016, the families of the martyrs’ of Assam Movement today returned the honour conferred to the sons, daughters and husbands by the Government of Assam for their sacrifice during the agitation.

The Martyr's family members returned the mementos to the State Government through Additional Deputy Commissioner of Golaghat District Arpah Baglary.

At least six families of martyrs of Golaghat district returned the mementos which were given by BJP led Assam government.

Earlier, The All Assam Jatiya Swahid Pariyal Samannayrakhi Parishad on Wednesday also decided to return the mementos as a mark of protest against the Union Government’s move to pass the controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill in the Parliament.

The family members of the martyrs’ had decided to submit the mementos to the Government of Assam through Deputy Commissioners of their respective districts.

The martyrs’ families were honoured with Rs 5 lakh and a memento each by the BJP led government on December 10 in the year 2016 at Khanapara Veterinary Ground in Guwahati.

In Guwahati, the families of the martyrs’ today marched from Swahid Nyash at Latasil to Kamrup Metro Deputy Commissioner’s office to return the mementos.

Speaking to the media, several family members of the martyrs’ stated that the sacrifices of the martyrs during the Assam agitation would become meaningless, if the controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016 get passed.
