LAKHIMPUR: A four-day long residential capacity-building training of farmers on livestock, poultry care and management was held at Lakhimpur College of Veterinary Science (LCVSc) training hall from July 16. It successfully concluded on Tuesday. The training programme was organized by Indo Global Social Service Society (IGSSS) in collaboration with LCVSc with financial assistance from HDFC Bank under the project titled "Action for Holistic Rural Development Program".

The event was inaugurated by Dr. Uma Ram Tamuli, Associate Dean of LCVSc in the presence of Dr. Sanjib Khargharia, Deputy Director of Student Welfare, and Dharani Payeng, Assistant Manager of IGSSS, teaching faculties of LCVSc, farmers and IGSSS staff Hari Boro and Mantu Saikia. The objective of the training was to build the capacities of the rural farmers to acquire scientific knowledge on care and management of livestock and poultry.

The first day of the training emphasized on goat farming practices with specific focus on overall scientific management of goat like breed selection, housing, record keeping etc, reproduction management for augmentation of goat production, heat detection, breeding, common and economically important goat diseases and general health management of goat, vaccination.

The training was facilitated and demonstrated by Dr. K. Boruah, Dr. A. Das, and Dr. S.N. Yadav respectively. The second day of the training emphasised on poultry farming with specific focus on importance of poultry farming in Assam, scientific management of broiler and layer and duck, disease management and vaccination schedule in poultry (chicken and other diversified poultry species, Bio- security measures for diseases control and prevention in a poultry farm, practical demonstration in a poultry farm. The topics were presented and demonstrated by Dr. S. Khargharia, Dr. N. Pathak, Dr. A. Baruah respectively.

The third day emphasised on cattle farming with focus on practical demonstration on cattle farming, overall scientific management of dairy cattle (breed selection, housing, record keeping, nutritional & feeding management in dairy farming, economically important diseases, general and reproductive health management of dairy cattle, vaccination schedule in diary cattle and practical demonstration in dairy farm. The session was facilitated and demonstrated by Dr. K. Boruah, Dr. K. Saikia, Dr. P Konwar, and Dr. M.P Baishya respectively.
