In a tweet, Assam Chief Minister wrote, "Had an opportunity to seek blessings of Hon Union Minister Sri @nitin_gadkari in Delhi. I discussed with him the critical 35-km Elevated Kaziranga Corridor and how this is earnestly needed to protect our wildlife incl Assam's pride Rhinos. It shall also give filip to tourism."

Meanwhile, the Himanta Biswa Sarma also requested Union Minister Gadkari to help Assam by giving instructions for expeditious completion of 48.5 km stretch (Rs 1823 cr) on Lumdig - Silchar NH, which is vital for people of Barak Valley.

Earlier, Himanta Biswa Sarma directed the PWD officials to fast-track all the necessary measures for the execution of the proposed elevated corridor project at Kaziranga National Park.

The corridor is being planned on the highway between Jakhalabandha to Bokakhat.

The Assam CM reviewed the proposed elevated corridor in the National Highway-37 stretch of the Kaziranga National Park with officials of the environment & forest department and PWD (Building & NH).

Kaziranga, a UNESCO World Heritage site, since 1985 and one of the major tourist attractions mainly due to its iconic one-one-horned rhino population (2,413 in 2018) is sandwiched between the river Brahmaputra and Karbi Anglong hills.

As the Monsoon rain in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh hills raises the water levels and inundates the park, animals are often seen rushing to Karbi Anglong hills to avoid floods. Many animals are mowed down by vehicles plying on the highway that runs parallel to the Karbi hills.
