GUWAHATI: In a tragic incident that sent shockwaves through the community, a hit-and-run incident on the Barpeta-Howly road in Assam resulted in the loss of a precious life and left another person severely injured. The horrifying event unfolded at a road intersection during a routine morning walk for the two victims. According to witnesses present at the scene, a dumper truck was responsible for mowing down the victims, but the driver callously fled the scene immediately after the accident.

The deceased victim was identified as Abu Zafar Mandal, a resident of Dablia Para village in Barpeta. His family and loved ones mourned the untimely and tragic loss of a beloved member of their community. Meanwhile, the other victim, Asik Hussain, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for immediate medical attention.

The local authorities were promptly informed about the incident, and they have launched an intensive investigation to identify the reckless driver responsible for the hit-and-run. The community is eagerly awaiting justice for the victims and their families.

In a separate heart-rending incident that occurred earlier in Guwahati, another life was lost due to a speeding motorbike accident. The victim, identified as Subir Das, tragically lost his life on July 4 in an incident that, unfortunately, went unreported until now.

CCTV footage of the incident revealed the sequence of events leading to Subir Das's untimely demise. Riding his bicycle near the VIP Flyover in Borjhar, Subir was about to cross the Service Road when a speeding motorbike with a rider and a pillion passenger collided with him from behind. The impact was so severe that Subir lost his life instantly.

The CCTV footage clearly indicated that the cause of the tragic accident was the overspeeding of the bike. Adding to the severity of the situation, neither the rider nor the pillion passenger were wearing helmets, a direct violation of the mandatory helmet-wearing rule enforced by the Guwahati Police for both two-wheeler riders and passengers.

These two heartrending incidents highlight the importance of road safety and responsible driving. Reckless driving, hit-and-run cases, and failure to abide by safety regulations have severe consequences that can lead to the loss of innocent lives and leave families shattered with grief.

As authorities continue their investigations to bring the culprits to justice, it is crucial for all road users to recognize their responsibility towards ensuring the safety of themselves and others on the road. Strict adherence to traffic rules and a collective effort to promote road safety can help prevent such tragic accidents in the future and protect precious lives.
