TEZPUR: A series of training on best management practices of rice and a field testing of the Rice Knowledge Bank mobile application were held under APART at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sonitpur. The training was attended by nearly 35 farmers of Sonitpur district. The programme started with valuable guidance from Angana Sarma, I/c Head, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sonitpur.

Dr. Roji Chutia, Subject Matter Specialist (Agronomy) stressed that farmers need to follow some scientific cultivation practices for improving the agriculture scenario of the State. She further stated that Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sonitpur will provide technical guidance and help to the farmers in learning new technologies of improved rice cultivation.

Rupsikha Goswami, Assistant Project Scientist of APART welcomed the participants and advised the farmers to cultivate stress tolerant rice varieties (STRVs) which will further increase income of the farmers. Dr. Gayatree Goswami and Dr. Abhilisa Mudoi, Project Scientist under APART acted as resource persons for the above programme.

During the training programme, the farmers were made aware of the best management practices of rice along with Integrated pest and disease management for ultimately increasing the yield of the produce. A field testing of Rice Knowledge Bank mobile application launched by Assam Agricultural University with technical support from IRRI was also conducted at the office premises. Jyoti Bikash Nath, Specialist of International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) acted as resource person for the training and guided the farmers on how to use the application for their benefit right from cultivation to marketing of the produce. He also highlighted the economic benefit of adoption of climate resilient technologies of rice cultivation like use of mechanical transplanter, reaper, drum seeder, combined harvester, seed cum fertilizer drill etc.
