LAKHIMPUR: "Asom Jatiya Parishad (AJP) has not been floated in order to patronize politics for the sake of politics, nor did it come up just as a part of a competition to constitute political parties. The spontaneous public demand and the Statewide agitation that took place clamouring for the scrapping the CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019) is the logical ground of the formation of the party. Continuation of the fight for scrapping the contentious Act, protection of Assamese nationalism and safeguarding Assamese culture and language are our topmost priorities."

This statement was made by Chitta Ranjan Basumatari, the convener of AJP for Dhemaji, Jonai, Lakhimpur and Dibrugarh on Sunday in Lakhimpur while interacting with media persons. "The political parties which have trust and faith on regional politics and its ideology must proceed unitedly. For this purpose we must create a sound environment," Chitta Ranjan Basumatari asserted.

He further stated that the continuation of the agitation for the scrapping of the CAA and safeguarding the Assamese community along with its culture, society and language would be the main issues in the forthcoming election. "The BJP has adapted many anti-public policies in comparison to the implementation of developmental activities. It is not difficult to dismount BJP from power. There are 42 lakh members in the party and the people of the State are with us," he said.

On the other hand, the convener committee of the AJP for Lakhimpur district was constituted during a public meeting held on Saturday at Lakhimpur District Xahitya Xabha Bhavan. AJP conveners Haren Chutiya, Chitta Ranjan Basumatari, Luckymoni Barauah, Shivaram Morang and Achyut Saikia were present in the meeting. The 51-member Lakhimpur District Convener Committee of AJP was constituted with Bijay Deuri, Mahesh Mahanta, Golap Saikia, Surajit Bhuyan, Dayananda Goswami, Jugal Khound and Dayananda Saikia as chief conveners. In the same meeting, over 300 people joined AJP expressing their commitment to the ideology of the party.
