DHUBRI: Like previous years, this year too Kolkata-Dhubri Sanmilani extended financial aid to needy and meritorious students studying in various schools of Dhubri town in a function held in the Dhubri Hari Sabha premises on Saturday.

Altogether 40 students from Vivekananda Vidyapith Higher Secondary School, Kabi Rabindra Nath Middle English School, Ramani Kanta Basu Higher Elementary School, Government Girls' Higher Secondary School, Jawahar Hindi High School, Matri Mandir Sishu Vidya Niketan, Sishu Pathsala Higher Secondary School and Sankardev Sishu Vidya Niketan were felicitated.

An amount of Rs 1 lakh donated by various memorial committees to the Sanmilani, were equally divided and distributed among the 40 students, a source in the Sanmilani informed.

The Sanmilani since inception has also been felicitating artistes, social workers and people contributing to the society. This year too, a veteran artiste, Arjun Sharma was felicitated for his immense contribution to art and culture of the area for over a period of five decades.

Sharma's outstanding contribution is a creative art with nails on hard white paper.

Talking to The Sentinel, the veteran artiste, Arjun Sharma while expressing his gratitude and heartiest thanks to Kolkata-Dhubri Sanmilani for felicitating him, said that nail art on plain white paper was a creative work initiated by him a long time ago.

"The State forum or other recognized platforms working in art and culture are yet to recognize it as an art form. For this, I am not unhappy as time will come and one day they can understand the value of this form of nail art", Sharma added.

The function was presided over by Professor (Retired) Debasish Bhattacharjee, who in his brief speech outlined the commendable socio-welfare activities by the Sanmilani and said that Sanmilani born out of emotional bondage of people now living in Kolkata who once lived in Dhubri.
