GUWAHATI: Financial influencer Abhishek Kar, who has nearly 3 million followers on Instagram, issued a public apology over his comments on "tantric practices" in Assam. His apology came after the Assam Chief Minister's Office called for action over his "unacceptable comments" during a podcast.

Shortly after, Mr. Kar posted a video apology beneath the CMO's post and mentioned that he had asked the podcaster to remove the particular clip that had caused offense.

"Apologies to people, @CMOfficeAssam, @gpsinghips and every concerned party who was hurt. The intent wasn't to hurt anyone and it will be kept in mind going forward that such incidents don't happen again," he wrote alongside the video.

In the video, Mr. Kar, with his hands folded, expressed regret, saying that he owes an apology for the podcast that hurt people's sentiments. "I didn't do it intentionally, neither wanted to create chaos, but that is how it panned out. I am so sorry if anyone got hurt," he stated.

He also mentioned that he would be more cautious when relying on secondary sources of information before speaking on public platforms.

Meanwhile, earlier, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has instructed the state police to take stringent action against financial influencer Abhishek Kar for allegedly disseminating false and offensive information about Assam’s history and traditions through a podcast on YouTube.

The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) addressed the issue on Friday via X (formerly Twitter), highlighting the controversial content. "A video from a YouTube channel, named Riya Upreti, is in circulation where an individual named Abhishek Kar is seen making unacceptable comments on Assam's history and traditions," the CMO stated. It further urged the authorities to initiate appropriate measures against the influencer for spreading misinformation.

In the podcast, Kar made contentious claims that women in Mayong village in Assam have supernatural powers to transform humans into animals and later transform them back to human form for illicit acts. He connected these alleged practices to tantric rituals, which brought forth widespread outrage.

Responding to the case, Assam DGP GP Singh said he would take all necessary actions on the issue quickly and legally while maintaining the seriousness of the complaint.
