GOLAGHAT: Traders of potato, onion and eggs lodged an FIR at Golaghat police station on Wednesday against the BJP Yuva Marcha president of Golaghat district committee along with three other BJP activists for allegedly demanding goonda tax from the traders. In the FIR it was stated that Golaghat BJP Yuva Morcha president Nanda Kishore Goswami and his associates Amal Sonowal, Mintu Bora and Dhan Borah had allegedly set up a syndicate and demanded illegal tax from onion, potato and egg traders. When traders refuse to pay illegal tax, they are threatened. The traders demanded steps to stop the syndicate raj in Golaghat and collection of goonda tax.

Meanwhile, the Golaghat AASU alleged that syndicate raj was going on in Golaghat. They said that if the district administration failed to act immediately, Golaghat AASU would launch a massive agitation. Khumtai MLA Mrinal Saikia said that no syndicate would be allowed in Golaghat. Legal action will be taken against any person involved in potato and onion syndicate, he said. The MLA assured that the matter would also be intimated to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal for taking proper action against the BJP activists.
