LAKHIMPUR: A case of fraudulent medical practice by a fake doctor has come to light in Lakhimpur district. The doctor had been continuing medical practices in Lakhimpur and Dhemaji districts using the registration number of other doctors.

The fraud doctor, who introduced himself as MBBS, DVL, FAM, Fellowship in Aesthetic Medicine, Specialist in Skin, Hair, Nail & Sexually Transmitted Disease, Consultant Dermatologist and Cosmetologist, had been continuing medical practices on Dermatology using the registration number 19947 (Assam Medical Council) of Dr. Kiran Sonowal who is the Assistant Professor, Department of Orthopaedics, Jorhat Medical College Hospital. It came to notice of Dr. Kiran Sonowal and he confronted the fraud regarding the issue. Then the fraud told Dr. Kiran Saikia that the number was an outcome of printing error quoting another registration number, that is 19447.

The fraud had been practising the Dermatology in North Lakhimpur too, at Town Medical Hall using the latter registration number 19447.

But the cat came out of the bag while Dr. Kiran Sonowal made an inquiry in order to verify this registration number. After his inquiry, he learnt that registration number 19447 was not of the fake doctor, but of another doctor named Avinash Saikia.

In this regard, Dr, Kiran Sonowal filed complaint to the Joint directors of Dhemaji districts requesting him to make an effective inquiry into the case terming it a ‘Fraudulent Medical Practice’.

Regarding the issue, the Anti Corruption Youth-power, Assam (ACYA) became vocal at a press conference organized at North Lakhimpur Press Club on Friday.

Addressing the media persons, the State president of the organization, Dharma Kanta Gogoi demanded the Lakhimpur and Dhemaji district administrations to launch an inquiry. Dharma Kanta Gogoi, on behalf of the organization, lodged an FIR at North Lakhimpur Police Station against the fake doctor.
