DHUBRI: An FIR was lodged against the husband of a Gaon Panchayat member in Dhubri district by Block Development Officer (BDO) of Gauripur Development Block, at the direction of Dhubri Deputy Commissioner, Ambamuthan MP on Monday.

According to the FIR, Adul Rofique, husband of Dharmasala Gaon Panchayat Part V member, Shahanaj Begum, allegedly demanded bribe of Rs 2,000 from a beneficiary against sanctioning house under PMAY, and the complainant lodged a complaint through WhatsApp to the Deputy Commissioner, who recently in a press meet had given the WhatsApp number so that anyone could lodge complaint if bribe was demanded by any official or individual from any beneficiary for sanctioning house under PMAY.

A source in the Dhubri administration said that the Deputy Commissioner, after having received the complaint on WhatsApp, immediately arranged a meeting with the beneficiary in Dharmasala Development Block office and talked to the beneficiary, and found the allegation to be true. The Deputy Commissioner then instructed the BDO to lodge FIR in the nearby police station, and accordingly, the BDO lodged FIR in the Dharmasala Police Out Post on Monday.

Talking to the media persons, Dhubri Deputy Commissioner, Ambamuthan MP said that no one would be spared if they demand bribes for sanctioning houses under PMAY. "I am strictly monitoring the implementation of the PMAY scheme and others and if the allegations are found to be true, the accused will be booked," he said.
