DIBRUGARH: The fire which broke out at LLDPE unit of BCPL plant, at Lepetkata in Dibrugarh on April 25 was brought under control immediately by BCPL Fire and safety Department along with other team members of BCPL and restricted to the specific area of the vessel of HCD (Hydrocarbon Condensate Drum)VV-511 of LLDPE unit where the fire was originated.

However, according to BCPL management sources there was no injury or any major damage to any machinery or equipment. The sources further stated that the plant was shutdown to undertake some maintenance activities.

The cause of the fire was due to suspected leakage of hydro carbon through a flange of the vessel. A detailed investigation is being carried out to ascertain the actual cause. The BCPL management sources further stated that some minor maintenance shall be required primarily in the instrumentation parts of the vessel. As the plant is already shutdown, there will be no impact on the restoration of the unit as necessary actions are being initiated and regular operation shall be resumed as per original shutdown schedule.
