Five arrested for inter-State liquor smuggling

DIGBOI: A section of people along the Assam-Arunachal border areas covering Bordumsa, Pengaree and Kakopather has been taking undue advantage of the lockdown and promoting inter-State illegal liquor smuggling.

At least five persons were arrested by Pengaree Police on Sunday evening at Brahmajan for smuggling liquor inter-State. According to police, the accused were identified as Bipen Moran of Kakopather, Krishna Neog and Utpal Sharma of Tinsukia while Harisankar Paul and his son Abhijit Paul are from Bordumsa in Arunachal.

A private ambulance (AS23CC 2861) attached to Tinsukia Civil Hospital was used for smuggling the liquor. “We recovered three cases of Arunachal manufactured liquor from the ambulance, besides arresting the three smugglers, including the owner of the ambulance, on Sunday evening,” said Srikumar Neog, the OC Pengaree.

“Based on interrogation, two hotel businessmen (father-son ) were arrested today from Bordumsa in Changlang district for selling the consignment to the Assam based smugglers illegally from his residence behind the gas agency,” informed the official.
