GUWAHATI: A total of 5 flight travellers from Europe and Saudi Arabia have now been discovered positive for Covid-19 in Assam, at a moment when the dangerous Covid19 variant Omicron has surfaced across the nation.

As per reports, a senior official from Assam's health department verified that four of the Covid19-infected travellers arrived in Silchar on December 6, while the other arrived in Guwahati on December 7 night.

Meanwhile, all five travellers' samples were transferred to Kolkata for genome sequencing in order to confirm the variation of the positive cases.

Despite being "asymptomatic," the positive individuals were hospitalised, according to the study. One of its travellers in Silchar who tested positive for Covid19 was from Finland, while another three were from Assam's Karimganj region.

They stayed in personal confinement after returning from Saudi Arabia. On Tuesday, they received their RT-PCR results. The visitor who tested positive at Silchar airport has been hospitalised at the Silchar Medical College Hospital, according to reports.

The three other passengers were sent to the Karimganj government civil hospital. A specialized healthcare official was reported in the newspaper as adding that the connection tracking of the three patients in Karimganj had been completed.

The source further stated that all specimens will be submitted to a facility in Kolkata on Wednesday to determine whether Covid19 Omicron was detected in their testing. The female traveller landed at the Guwahati airport on Tuesday night after flying from the United Kingdom.

The woman landed in Guwahati after a brief stop in Amritsar. The 34-year-old woman travelled from Patna to Guwahati. She was brought to the Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) on Tuesday night after a Rapid Antigen Test revealed she was positive for Covid19 (RAT). During the RT-PCR test, she was later found to be positive.
