LAKHIMPUR: Five meritorious students of Lakhimpur brought laurels to the district by bagging the 3rd, 6th, 7th, 8th and 10th ranks in the State in the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examination this year. They are Debisma Priya Borah and Ranuj Jyoti Baruah of Gyanjyoti Academy of Narayanpur, Avilasha Dutta and Diwiz Bikash of St. Mary's High School of North Lakhimpur and Simran Borah of Brookfield School of North Lakhimpur.

As per the result declared on Saturday, Debisma Priya secured the 3rd rank in the State while Ranuj Jyoti grabbed the 7th position. On the other hand, Avilasha Dutta bagged the 7th rank, Simran Borah bagged the 8th rank while Diwiz Bikash secured the 10th rank.

Debisma Priya secured a grand total of 591 marks by scoring 97 in English, 97 in Assamese, 100 in General Mathematics, 100 in General Science, 97 in Social Science and 100 in Advanced Mathematics. Her overall percentage is 98.5 per cent. She is the daughter of Jayanta Madhav Borah and Dibyajyoti Borah, teachers of Narayanpur HS School and residents of Tatibahar. Debisma wants to be a doctor and she will take admission in Ramanujan Junior College of Nagaon in Science stream to pursue higher education. She studied for 5- 6 hours during school days and 7-8 hours on holidays. She has interest in music and reading books by reputed writers of Assamese literature. According to her, perseverance and hard work are the keys to success.

Ranuj Jyoti's grabbed the 6th rank by securing 588 as total marks with 98 overall percentage. He scored 98 in English, 97 in Assamese, 100 in General Mathematics, 97 in General Science, 96 in Social Science and 100 in Advanced Mathematics. He is the son of Bhavakanta Baruah, teacher of Namoni Subansiri HS School, and Reetamoni Hazarika residing in the Bonpuroi Jamuguri area. Ranuj wants to be an administrative officer and he will study in Ramanujan Junior College in Nagaon. He has interest in games and reading literary masterpieces.

Avilasha achieved a grand total of 587 with 97.8 overall percentage by scoring 99 in English, 92 in Assamese, 100 in General Mathematics, 100 in General Science, 97 in Social Science and 99 in Advanced Mathematics. She is the eldest daughter of Anup Kumar Dutta, Assistant Statistical Officer of Lakhimpur DRDA and Pallabita Dutta, residents of KB Road in North Lakhimpur town. She will study in Science stream, take admission in a reputed academic institution of Lakhimpur and wishes to become a doctor. She studied for 6-7 hours regularly before the exam. "Regular study of the course with hard work and strict adherence to punctuality are the keys to success," she said.

Simran Borah is the daughter of Munindra Kumar Borah, a PWD engineer, and Dibyajyoti Bhuyan, Vice-Principal of Brahmaputra Valley Academy. They are the residents of Khelmati in North Lakhimpur town. Simran secured 97 in English, 96 in Assamese, 100 in General Mathematics, 96 in Social Science and 100 in Advanced Mathematics with a grand total of 586 marks with 97.6 overall percentage. She also wishes to be a doctor in order to serve humanity. As a lover of art, Simaran has been learning the subject as a student of Lakhimpur Kala Niketan. She studied for 6 to 7 hours on school days and maximum 12 hours on holidays. She thanked her parents and teachers, including Brookfield School Principal Firoz Wahid for her extraordinary result.

Tenth rank holder Diwiz Bikash scored 97 in English, 92 in Assamese, 100 in General Mathematics, 100 in Advanced Mathematics, 99 in General Science and 98 in Social Science. He secured 684 in total with 97.4 overall percentage. He is the son of Bikash Ranjan Gogoi, a businessman, and Mouchumi Gogoi, residents of Mahara village near North Lakhimpur town. Diwiz Bikash likes to play cricket and he has already taken part in several national events of the game in New Delhi on behalf of U-16 State team. He aims to be an administrative officer in future. At present, he has decided to study in science stream.
