Five youths drown in Ghiladhari River in Biswanath district

BISWANATH CHARIALI: In a tragic incident during the celebration of Bohag Bihu, five youths drowned in two separate incidents in the Ghiladhari River under Chatiya police station in Biswanath district on Wednesday.

According to information, in the first incident, two siblings named Bhargav Pratim Mantri and Akanya Mantri of Chatiya Purani Gaon village were washed away and subsequently drowned when they had gone to the river to take a bath. Local people recovered the bodies after a while. In the second incident, three other youths of Chatiya viz. Moucham Ojah, Bikash Hazarika and Abhijit Ojah drowned in the same river while they were taking bath on the occasion of Bihu. Local people later managed to recover their bodies using country boats. The incidents cast a pall of gloom in the area.
