KOKRAJHAR: The incessant heavy rain since the last few days has created flash flood in many areas of Kokrajhar town and neighbouring areas. Many areas in Kokrajhar town like Santinagar, Rabindra Nagar, Rupathi Nwgwr, Mainao Nwgwr, Mizing Nwgwr, Assam Oil Depot road and Jwhwlao Dwimalu roads have submerged, making it difficult for commuters. Over 10 families of Chandrapara were forced to take shelter in a nearby school after their houses were flooded. Water has entered houses in many areas, making life difficult for the people. In many parts, water from the drains overflowed onto the roads, filling the town with sewage water and garbage. The house of MLA Rabiram Narzary has been submerged by flash flood at Rupathi Nwgwr in Kokrajhar town. The lack of proper and scientific drainage system is the cause of artificial flash flood in Kokrajhar.

Meanwhile, the water level of rivers like Swrmanga, Sonkosh, Gangia and Champamati is rising and flowing above danger level. On the other hand, State Social Welfare and Soil Conservation Pramila Rani Brahma visited various flood-affected places in Kokrajhar to take stock of the situation.
