DOOMDOOMA: Following torrential rain for the last couple of days in the entire Tinsukia district and in the catchment areas of neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh, the major rivers and streams of the district are in spate.

The water level of the River Brahmaputra and its tributaries Noa- Dihing and Dibru rivers are rising posing a threat to the nearby rural areas. Surging waters of the River Brahmaputra and its tributary Dibru River entered Baghjan and Digulturrang area of Doomdooma LAC and inundated a large area of Baghjan village on Tuesday morning. If there is no let-up of this torrential rain, the entire village along with the Baghjan-Tinsukia Road via Guijan will be completely submerged by the surging water of flash flood by Tuesday night. Already 6-7 dwelling houses of Baghjan village have been submerged by flood water. No relief camp has so far been set up by the administration.

On the other hand, the surging water of the Brahmaputra and the Dibru River also inundated a vast area of Dibru-Saikhowa National Park, posing a threat to the animals of the park.

Moreover, the overflowing water of the River Brahmaputra inundated a vast area of paddy fields in Laopati, Phulbari and other areas of Sadiya LAC under Doomdooma Revenue Circle.

On the other hand, surging water of the River Noa-Dihing washed away the bamboo bridge which was constructed by the villagers of Tengapani village of Hahkhati Gaon Panchayat of Saikhowa Development Block under Sadiya LAC along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border. As a result, the communication of the Tengapani village on the Assam-Arunachal border, which usually experiences flood-induced lockdown every year for four months from June to September, has remained cut off with rest of the State.
