TINSUKIA: Flood situation in Sadiya sub-division under Tinsukia district is grim with rising floodwater marooning hundreds of people in several villages under Rajgarh and Amarpur Gaon Panchayats affecting around thousand villagers.

The second wave of flood in this season is more severe than that of 2004. The Kundil and Dichui rivers near Chapakhowa and Dibang and Dotung rivers encircling Amarpur created severe devastation. Various infrastructures have been damaged disrupting road communications in several locations. Also added into the fury are the rivers from Arunachal Pradesh like Balijan and Kolia that severely affected Sunpura and Ambikapur.

Though Government records stated that 25 villages had been affected yet the field reports revealed more. Seven villages under Rajgarh Gaon Panchyat namely No 1 and No 2 Bishnupur Pahukhowa, Bhaitikhuti, Haripur, Borgohain gaon, Kamalabasti and Dichui gaon; seven villages under Na-Sadiya Gaon Panchyat namely Purani Lakhimpuria, 7 mile, Dokami gaon, 8 mile, 5 mile, 4 mile and 3 mile; 3 villages under Nagaon Goan Panchayat namely Mogulpur, Islampur and Paglam; 4 villages under Hollou Gaon Panchayatnamely Barhoni Goan, Nachai, Majgaon, and Tupsingha besides Doompathar, Na-Patia, Na-Paglam, Chandrapur, Shantinagar, Manipuribasti, Gausala,Udaipur and Mirichapori are among most affected by surging flood. Among these villages Bishnupur Pahukhowa and Purani Lakhimpuria are affected most.

Among the roads that needed immediate attention and likely to be eroded completely are 5 km PMGSY road connecting Haripur with Bishnupur Pahukhowa and Sunpura-Ambikapur Road near Udaipur gaon near River Balijan. According to official information, the administration has opened 5 relief camps at Ladu Gaon LPS, Danabari LPS, Mogulpur LPS, 8 Mile LPS, Puroni Lakhimpuria LPS with 220 inmates and provided relief accordingly.

Elsewhere in the district, when the preparations were afoot to send flood affected people back home from relief camps, the second wave of flood devastated more areas forcing authorities to translocate affected people to safer places after relief camps established earlier got inundated, this situation has arisen in Guijan, Natuan Goan and Barekuri areas.
