DIBRUGARH: The flood situation in Dibrugarh district continued to remain serious, with fresh reports confirming the impact across seven revenue circles of Tingkhong, Chabua, Moran, Dibrugarh East, Dibrugarh West, Naharkatia, and Tengakhat.
As per official data, 55 villages were inundated, affecting a total of 10,155 people. Among the worst-hit areas were Moran with 2,593 affected people, followed by Chabua (2,535), Naharkatia (2,050), Dibrugarh West (1,562), and Tengakhat (1,158).
A total of 138 people had taken shelter in three relief camps, while 7,214 non-camp inmates were receiving aid through 32 relief distribution centres. Although no human deaths or missing cases have been reported so far, floodwaters severely impacted 27,696 animals, including large and small livestock and poultry. Dibrugarh West alone accounts for 4,903 affected animals.
While no houses were reported damaged, the floods took a toll on livelihoods, particularly in the fisheries and sericulture sectors. In Moran, five fish ponds covering approximately 1.5 hectares were submerged, while in Naharkatia, silkworm rearing involving 20,000 cocoons (350 DFLs) was reported damaged at No.2 Ghuguloni Gaon. Additionally, an anti-erosion protection bundh at Balijan in Chabua was reported damaged, as confirmed by the Water Resources Department.
Relief and rescue efforts were underway, with supplies including 149.21 quintals of rice, 27.08 quintals of dal, and 587.4 litres of mustard oil being distributed, along with salt, sanitary items, baby food, tarpaulins, and animal feed. A total of 18 medical teams and 3 boats were deployed for rescue and support operations, and 14 people rescued in Chabua. Fortunately, there have been no breaches in embankments or damage to roads and bridges reported so far.
District authorities continued to monitor the situation closely and were actively conducting rescue and relief operations across the affected areas. As per the Water Resources Department, the water level of the river Brahmaputra in Dibrugarh at 6 PM on June 4 was recorded at 104.87 meters with a falling trend. The level has significantly receded in the past few days after previously crossing the danger mark of 105.70 meters.
