LAKHIMPUR: Regional commuter airline Flybig launched direct connectivity between Guwahati and Lakhimpur from Wednesday. The maiden flight of this service arrived at Lilabari Airport of Lakhimpur district from Borjhar Airport of Guwahati around 4:30pm on Wednesday. Among the passengers of the maiden flight were Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Kumar Pegu, Lakhimpur MP Pradan Baruah and Lakhimpur MLA Manab Deka.
Notably, in conjunction with the UDAN initiative, Flybig, India's newest friendly regional airline, has provided connectivity to destinations in the nation that were hitherto not accessible by air.
The airline will fly four times a week on this route on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday at an all-inclusive low fare of Rs 999, Flybig chief executive officer (CEO) Sanjay Mandavia said in a release. The flight will leave Guwahati to Lilabari at 4:00 pm and leave Lilabari to Guwahati at 5:00pm on the stipulated four days. Flybig will also operate flights between Guwahati and Agartala twice a day every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
"We will soon connect the entire Northeast at super affordable rates and help boost tourism in the region , Mandavia said in the release. Focused on connecting tier-2 and tier-3 cities within India, Flybig operates ATR-72 type of aircraft, offering air travel solutions aligned with the underlying travel needs and preferences in emerging cities of the country, the release said.
Notably, the flight service between Lakhimpur and Guwahati from Lilabari Airport to Borkhar had been non-operational since July, 2019. During this long period, Lakhimpur was only connected with Kolkata by a flight of Air India Regional Service on a daily basis.
