JORHAT: Apart from the Rs 853 crore package announced by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for the development of Jorhat district, the Cabinet meeting held at the Jorhat Circuit House, decided to construct a flyover from Baruah Chariali to Bhogdoi to ease traffic congestion in the AT Road, among a slew of other projects for Jorhat. The flyover would be constructed at a cost of Rs 150 crore.

Briefing media persons at the circuit house after the Cabinet meeting, the Chief Minister said that the Birholla to Jorhat road would be reconstructed under the Assam Mala at a cost of Rs 400 crores.

Another decision by the Cabinet was to construct the Chowk Bazar in a systematic manner at a cost of Rs 50 crore. Another decision was the Rs 20 crore reconstruction of Club Road as a heritage road. Other decisions taken were to construct a 100 bed civil hospital at Mariani and two government colleges, one at Selenghat under Mariani revenue circle, and the other at Dergaon.

JMCH would receive an additional Rs 122 crore for upgrade work. Another structure to be built is a convention hall with a seating capacity of 1000 people, which will cost Rs 16 crore. Dr Sarma further said that two small bridges would be constructed over Janji river at Jhanjimukh, Teok and Azarguri.
