KOKRAJHAR: Finally, the Forest department has admitted the poaching of wild elephants at Manas National Park by poachers and claimed that the manhunt is going on and the poachers would be nabbed as soon as possible.

In the clarification, the department concerned said the Chikarijhar area of the Panbari Range of Manas National Park and Tiger Reserve, a group of poachers shot and killed one female and one young elephant and took away their tusks and in contrast, the body of another female elephant was recovered from the Panir Juwali area of the Bansham region under the Panbari Range. The department, however, claimed that the 3rd elephant died of natural causes due to old age.

Meanwhile, a team of senior forest officials and experts is conducting an investigation into the entire incident to identify the poaching network involved in the elephant killings. Some clues have already been obtained.

The Forest department is conducting operations to apprehend the group of poachers and has expressed hope that the culprits will be caught very soon.
