DHUBRI: Padmashri awardee Dr Jadav Payeng visited Bongaigaon Refinery (BGR) on Saturday. Dr Payeng, widely known as the ‘Forest Man of India’, transformed barren land into vast green forest in Jorhat district of Assam. A lone crusader who fought bravely against all odds and single-handedly planted trees for more than 40 years, was accorded warm welcome to BGR and he was felicitated by BGR Chief General Manager (in-charge), G C Sikder in an interaction function held with senior management of the BGR .

Sikdar said that Payeng’s hard work paid off and the forest he had created was now a natural habitat of various species of fauna and flora, thus setting an example for future generations. Appreciating the dedication, commitment and the tireless efforts of Dr Payeng towards environment conservation, Sikdar said, “Each of us should vow to work sincerely towards environment conservation so that the world will indeed be a good place to live in.”

Payeng in his speech said that he would continuously work towards environment conservation and teach the future generation about the importance of conservation of forest and the environment as whole. “The earth is not only a green plant but also a home for us. I earnestly call upon BGR to take schemes under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) for plantation and nurturing of trees so that the eco-system can be maintained in view of rapid growth of industrialization in the country,” Dr. Payeng added.
