LAKHIMPUR: "The implementation of the recommendations of the third Bodo Peace Accord (BTR), which was signed in New Delhi on January 27 between the Union Government, Assam Government and the leaders of the Bodo community organizations after long agitation, through the formation of proposed Bodo Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council (BKWAC) will pave the way for comprehensive development of the Boro people outside the BTC."

This statement was made by United Bodo People's Organization (UBPO) secretary Sukreswar Goyari in Lakhimpur on Wednesday. He said so in a public meeting organized by Lakhimpur district unit UBPO at Bodo Xahitya Xabha Bhavan located at Boginadi under the district. He further added that the dream might come into reality only with the unity of the Bodo people.

The meeting commenced with Lakhimpur unit UBPO president Atul Goyari while general secretary Sambaru Basumatari explained the objectives of the programme. Taking part in the meeting, UBPO vice-president Ratan Basumatari said that the Bodo community, under the leadership of UBPO and in association with other community organizations, had demanded the formation of BKWAC.

"Of late, responding to the demand, the State Government has initiated move to form the BKWAC for the Bodo people living outside the BTC on the basis of the recommendation incorporated in the third Bodo Peace Accord (BTR) signed in New Delhi between the Union Government, Assam Government, ABSU, four units of NDFB and UBPO on January 27 in 2020. UBPO and Bodo people living outside the BTC have welcomed this decision and move on the part of the State Government," stated the UBPO vice-president.

He further added that the State Government had decided to implement several recommendations of the third Bodo Peace Accord (BTR) in addition to forming the BKWAC for the welfare of the Bodo people living outside the BTC as per decision taken in a discussion held in New Delhi between Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and State Finance Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma.

"The formation of the BKWAC will cause far and wide impact upon the comprehensive development and security of the political, academic, socio-economic and land rights of the Bodo people living outside the BTC," asserted the UBPO vice-president, while addressing the public meeting wherein UBPO chairperson Peetambor Brahma, organizing secretary Srijan Basumatari, and other leaders were present.
